January 2026, Editorial Team
We're excited to share the progress we've made in setting up the Library of Things.
Since last summer, we’ve been busy collecting suitable donated items from residents. We’ve received over 30 items so far, which is a fantastic start. After receiving them, the next step was checking, PAT testing, and inventorying everything. This included taking photos and uploading all the information into our lending system.
For a while, storage was a challenge, and the items had to live in a volunteer’s garage. However, things moved quickly toward the end of last year. We worked with the library to finalise the service agreement and agree on a temporary storage location. We signed the agreement and found a home for the items almost simultaneously. After shifting a shed, the items were finally moved into their new, albeit temporary, homes.
Since January, we’ve been testing the lending system and registration process. We’ve had friends of eeCAN sign up to help us test it out, and we’re making sure we're familiar with how the system works for checking items in and out.
Over the next few months, our focus will be on getting the word out and planning for an opening date. We still have a couple of administrative items to finalise before we can confirm the opening, but we are currently working toward an April 2026 launch.
